Praise for Elroy's Remarkable Day Fishing

"A lovingly told and brightly illustrated story about a young boy's first fishing outing with his
Dad. Elroy's Remarkable Day Fishing will evoke memories of when you learned to be patient,
became skilled at a task, and then savored the success of your efforts."
—Joseph D’Alessio, collector of first and signed editions of Caldecott Medal-winning children’s
books and former bookstore owner

“A lovely tale of bonding across generations. Emily Collis displays a remarkable ability to
engage young readers. The rhythm is lively, and the rhyme is playful. The text lends itself to call
and response and allows readers to predict what comes next. The illustrations add a wondrous
visual element to the story.”

—Michelle Vigil Wick, lifelong early childhood educator

“A heartwarming and delightful picture book for everyone, but especially for boys who like
fishing. Emily captures the joy of fishing and love between three generations, a grandfather, son,
and grandson in Elroy’s Remarkable Day Fishing.”

Q: Your new book, Elroy’s Remarkable Day Fishing, comes out next week on Thursday, May 16th! What’s the book about, and what was your inspiration to write it?
A: Elroy is thrilled to spend the day with his dad and grandpa, fishing for the first time. The book shows the beauty of multigenerational companionship on a beautiful day outdoors. Fishing with my late father, Elroy, inspired this story, and treasured memories of reading picture books with my sons motivated me to write it. Truly, is there anything better than snuggling together or tucking a child into bed with a good story?

Q: What do you think is the biggest lesson readers will take away from the book?
A: Through playful repetition and fun-to-read-aloud rhyming text, we get to watch Elroy use patience and perseverance to learn a new skill, and then see him joyfully savor success.

Q: You spent quite a bit of time fishing in Galveston, Texas growing up. Can you tell us about one of your fondest fishing memories from childhood?
A: I was fortunate to enjoy many fishing and crabbing adventures with my family, and fondly remember catching my favorite fish—a flounder. As a youngster, I thought they looked so cute and different from the other fish. Hopefully this story will help little ones embrace a sense of wonder and fun while trying a new activity.
